The scariest thing I've done in a long time..... and why I'm going to keep doing it!
This week you may have seen my Facebook Live Unboxing Video.
If you have - my thanks (and apologies 😂).
If you haven't, you can find it here (again my apologies!).
Why am I apologising?
Oh it's really bad!
Am I going to delete it?
No - and here's why.
I listen to a lot of business podcasts whilst I'm in the car, doing school runs, shopping, endless trips to the Post Office etc. And they keep telling me "You need to go live", "your people wont see you unless you go live" and worse still "Facebook won't show your stuff to anyone unless you go live".
I've been putting it off for ages. Like months. In my previous job I would do presentations all the time, in my dress, heels and full make up. But that's not me anymore. I mainly work from home in jeans with a messy bun. And I love that now. But who wants to watch me waffling on when they're scrolling on their social media?
So I kept putting it off.
But last week something changed.
I was listening to another podcast about a lady who had led an incredible life, filled with unimaginable hardships. And she just kept bouncing back.
When asked where she drew her incredible strength and bravery from, she replied "Oh, I'm not brave. Not at all. Everything scares me. But when I'm scared I say to myself - 'Do the brave thing'. Even if it terrifies you. Just do it. And then the next thing. And the next."
And it really struck a cord. So much so I put it as my screensaver on my computer and my phone.
And did I adopt it as my new mantra straight away?
But I kept looking at it, and thinking about it.
It kept playing round my mind.
Last week, I sent out May's Subscription Box. And I normally do an unboxing video, not showing my face, just the contents.
And I decided that if I was ever going to go live on social media, now was the time.
So I went for it! I propped up my phone and pressed 'Go Live'. I spoke so fast I couldn't breathe. And I'm sure I made no sense at all. I made quite a few mistakes, and when it was finished I couldn't figure out how to turn it off. Then I went and lay down on the sofa!
Did it look professional and engaging?
Was I proud of it?
But am I glad I did it?
Well I'm proud of myself, if not the actual video.
Because I'm not a filmmaker. I'm not an actress or a producer.
I'm a mum of three with two businesses, who doesn't always see a hairbrush, and is sitting here writing this in her pyjamas (and it may or may not even be nightime!)
But I did it. And I'll do it again, because that was what I needed to do to grow my business.
And I wanted to share it with you, because nothing is ever as bad as our imaginations tell us it will be. And none of us are perfect - so why do we hold ourselves us to those perfect standards?
I just thought there might be one person out there that needed a little nudge to do the brave thing. And if that's you I hope this helped.
If it did please reply back and let me know. And if you'd like the screensaver let me know and I'll send it to you.
I hope you have a great week. And 'Do the brave thing'.
P.S. If you like the look of my Subscription Box, you can check it out here.
