How to Store Wax Melts – Keep Your Scents Fresh for Longer

How to Store Wax Melts – My Best Tips 👇

Wax melts are all about gorgeous fragrance – but to keep them performing at their best, you need to store them right. Whether you're stocking up during a sale or switching scents with the seasons, here’s how I store mine (and how you should too!).

1. 🧊 Keep Them Cool and Dry

Heat is your wax melt’s worst enemy. High temperatures can cause them to soften or even melt slightly in storage, which messes with the scent and shape.

  • Ideal storage: A cool cupboard or drawer away from direct sunlight and radiators.
  • Avoid: Windowsills, bathrooms, conservatories, and anywhere prone to heat or moisture.

2. 🫙 Store in Airtight Packaging

Scent fades over time – especially if your melts are exposed to air.

  • Leave them in their original packaging: My wax melts are sealed for a reason – to protect the strength of the fragrance.
  • Decanting? Use airtight containers like small jars or grip-seal bags.

If you’ve opened a melt and only used part of it, just pop the rest back in the wrapper and seal it with a clip or bit of tape.

3. 🚫 Avoid Mixing Scents

It’s tempting to keep everything together, but storing multiple fragrances in the same box can cause cross-contamination.

  • Keep fruity, fresh, and perfume-inspired scents in their own separate bags or tubs.
  • Want to organise by type? Try little drawers or dividers.

💡 Top tip: Label your melts with the scent name if you’re removing the packaging – especially if you're storing seasonal ones like Christmas Wax Melts or Fruity Scents.

Final Thoughts

Storing wax melts properly is so simple – but it really does make a difference. Keep them cool, dry, and sealed up, and your favourite scents will stay strong for months.
