If you’re new to wax melts, don’t worry - they’re really easy to use once you know the basics.
Wax melts are one of the simplest ways to make your home smell beautiful. You don’t need to light the wax itself, you don’t need to commit to one huge candle, and you can change scents whenever you fancy something different.
Here’s my simple step-by-step guide to using wax melts at home.
What are wax melts?
Wax melts are pieces of fragranced wax that you place into a wax burner or electric warmer. As the wax gently melts, it releases fragrance into the room.
My Chandlers wax melts are hand-poured soy wax snapbars or shapes. You simply snap off a piece, one chunk of a snapbar or a piece approx 10g, pop it into your burner and let the scent do its thing.

Step 1 - Choose your wax melt
First, choose the scent you want to melt. This is the fun bit.
Fresh and clean scents are perfect for after cleaning, perfume-inspired scents are lovely for bedrooms and dressing rooms, and fruity scents are great when you want something cheerful and cosy.
If you’re not sure where to start, my Luxury Soy Wax Melts Bestsellers Bundle gives you 12 full-size customer favourite snapbars and saves 25% compared to buying individually.
Step 2 - Snap off a piece
For a standard snapbar, snap off one segment and place it into the dish of your wax burner.
You don’t need to use the whole bar at once. In fact, please don’t. A little goes a long way, especially with strong scents.
Step 3 - Place it in your burner
Place the piece of wax into a clean, dry wax burner dish.
Do not add water. Wax melts are designed to melt on their own.
Make sure your burner is placed on a flat, heat-safe surface away from children, pets, curtains and anything flammable.
Step 4 - Warm the wax
If you’re using a tealight burner, place a 4-hour tealight underneath and light it carefully.
If you’re using an electric warmer, switch it on according to the manufacturer’s instructions. My melts are soy, and they need a burner of at least 40w to fully melt and release the fragrance.
As the wax melts, the fragrance will start to fill the room.
Step 5 - Enjoy the scent
Once your wax melt has started melting, all you need to do is enjoy it.
Some scents fill a room quickly, while others build more softly. Room size, burner type, temperature and airflow can all affect how strong a wax melt smells.
How long do wax melts last?
This depends on the scent, the amount of wax used and your burner. Some fragrances naturally feel stronger for longer than others.
Once the wax no longer gives off fragrance, it’s time to change it.
How do you remove used wax?
Let the wax cool and harden first. Never try to remove hot wax.
Once cooled, you can gently remove the wax from the burner dish. Some people briefly warm the burner for a few seconds to loosen the wax, then slide it out carefully.
Wipe the dish clean before adding your next scent.

- Do not overfill the burner dish.
